Wendi Lane spent the morning talking to Don Sercy, whose granddaughter was born with Rett syndrome.

An event took place in Tulare on Monday to raise money and awareness for children suffering from the rare despise Rett syndrome.

Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder that is first recognized in infancy and seen almost always in girls and is often misdiagnosed as autism, cerebral palsy, or non-specfic developmental delay.

It occurs worldwide in 1 of every 10,000 female births and causes problems in brain function that are responsible for cognitive, sensory, emotional, motor and autonomic function. These can include learning, speech, sensory sensations, mood, movement, breathing, cardiac function, and even chewing, swallowing, and digestion.

Wendi Lane spent the morning talking to Don Searcy, whose granddaughter was born with Rett syndrome.

Don spent the day at a Spin-A-Thon for Rett syndrome at Evolutions Fitness in Tulare.
