Farm To Fork: Cotton
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) —
Cotton is a crop we rely on every day and while it may not be California's largest crop, it provides more than 20,000 jobs statewide and produces in excess of $3.5 billion annually.
In this segment, Rich Kreps, a Certified Crop Advisor for Ultra Gro, heads into the cotton fields to talk with Sean Howard with Terra Linda Farms.
Howard says he grows Pima rather than Acala cotton because of economics; it costs the same to grow both but Pima pays more.
California is also the larges producer of Pima cotton in the U.S.
So the next time you slip on your blue jeans, slide under your cozy sheets, or dry off with your bath towel, think about the farmers working hard to grow the cotton they're made from.
