Wild Bear Shot, Killed in Visalia

A black bear that had been roaming loose in Visalia over the last few day was killed Thursday, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said.

The bear, a 150-pound male black bear, was killed near the St. Johns River due to safety concerns, wildlife officials said.

KMPH was with wildlife officials Wednesday as they searched for the bear in a cornfield.

The statement went on to say that the bear was shot with a tranquilizer dart and the released in an undisclosed area about 100 miles away.

Although fish and wildlife officials attempted non-deadly methods to trap the bear, it was ultimately shoot and killed due to safety concerns.
