The United Health Optum Institute study found more than 75% of volunteers say that helping others has made them feel healthier. Almost 95% say it also improved their mood.
Even more interesting, a quarter of volunteers say it has helped them manage a chronic illness over the past year.
Volunteers also say it helped them better control stress, gave them a sense of purpose, and helped them take greater control over their health.
