Recycling Christmas Trees To Create Clean Energy

Now that the Christmas season is over, what happens to all those Christmas trees that decked our halls?

Well, some of them are turned into green energy.

More than 200 truckloads of 50,000 trees are expected to be taken to a recycling center in Tracy, CA.

The trees are getting dumped into huge grinders and turned into fuel.

We're told the acidic, oil rich pine is far better suited for energy than as ground cover or compost.

And, the heat from the burning trees heats up water that generates steam, which is used to power turbines. The energy from those turbines can then be transferred to the state power grid.
