Three people were arrested on Wednesday after they tried to sell steel man-hole covers that had been previously reported stolen, police said.

Dorothy Jane Alt, 19, Joy Dawn McKay, 37{} and Issac Gonzalez, 30, were arrested shortly before 1 p.m. after Madera County law enforcement officials received a call from a recycler who reported that Alt and McKay entered his business trying to sell him three steel man hole covers. Gonzalez, meanwhile, waited inside their car parked outside, according to reports filed with the Madera County Sheriff's Office.

The three told Madera detectives that hey found the steel at a former labor camp in Planada--about 30 miles north of Madera. The camp, law enforcement officials said, has been the target of several recent thefts.

Copper wire and steel man hole covers were reported missing early Wednesday morning.

Detectives found a steel pry bar, pipe wrench, tin snips and other others tools commonly used to steal wire and man hole covers inside of the car.

All three were booked onto Madera county Department of Corrections on felony charges. Bail is set at $10,000 each.
