Budget Cuts: Three Officers Get Pink Slips in Parlier
PARLIER, Calif. (KMPH) —
Parlier residents say they are frustrated with city council's vote to cut three officers from the Parlier Police Department.
The officers will get layoff notices within the next few weeks, officials said.
The city is facing an $800,000 budget deficit.
Without the cuts, city council members say Parlier could end up loosing its entire police department and the city could go into bankruptcy.
Prior to the vote, many in the community voiced their opposition to letting officers go.
Several officers say the gang activity in Parlier will only get worse with fewer officers on the streets.
The city is looking at getting the officers back on the department with the help of grants.
But as of now, three officers will get pink slips.
