Sunnyside High School Teacher Killed In Morning Bicycle Accident

A Fresno high school teacher was killed Tuesday in an early morning collision with{}a Jeep,{}the California Highway Patrol said.

Jim Healy, a technology teacher at Sunnyside High School in Fresno, died after his bicycle{}was struck by a Jeep{}on Auberry Road, just north of Copper Avenue shortly after 5:30 a.m.

Healy was riding with a group of bicyclists when the driver of the{}Jeep approached the group of riders.

According to CHP reports,{}Fitch slowed down to about 55 miles per hour and attempted to pass the group of riders. That's when officers say that Healy steered his bike--possibly trying to make a U-turn--into the path of the Jeep.

Fitch attempted to avoid Healy, but the front of the Jeep struck{}him, the CHP said.

Healy{}was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he{}later died. {}

Susan Bedi, spokeswoman for the Fresno Unified School District, said that Healy was the 'go-to" person for Sunnyside's technology needs.

"He will be missed by not only the Sunnyside community but the entire district," Bedi said."Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time."
