Splitting Up California Could Be On The Ballot

The decision to split California into 6 states could now be up to you.

Venture capitalist, Tim Draper, submitted 44,000 signatures in Sacramento on Tuesday but says he says he has 1.3 million.

Draper says the 38.3 million people in our state have become ungovernable.

He also says that there are too many diverse interests to have an effective government.

He wants to divide California into six states called: Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, Central California, West California, and South California.

Critics note that the plan would separate the wealthiest and poorest Californians, potentially creating some of the poorest states in the nation.

If Draper submits enough signatures, the measure would appear on the ballot in November 2016.
