Sexual Assault: Merced Dentist Accused
MERCED, Calif. (KMPH) —
A Merced dentist was arrested Tuesday, accused of sexually assaulting one of his patients.
According to the Merced Police Department, an accuser claims Sang Hyuk Park sexually assaulted them while under anesthesia.
Detectives served a search warrant at Park's office and arrested him. He was booked into the Merced County Jail and later released after posting bail.
Police believe there could be more accusers.
This isn't Park's first run-in with the law.
In 2004, the state attorney general charged Park and 19 other California dentists with Medi-Cal fraud. The attorney general said the dentists performed unnecessary fillings and root canals to increase billings.
Many in the group were charged with workers' compensation fraud, grand theft, child abuse, elder abuse and assault.
Investigators say some of the dentists even went as far as skimping on anesthesia before painful procedures.
