New Fresno City Council President Turns Down Pay Increase
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) —
Fresno City Council Member Clint Olivier has decided not to accept the $5,000 pay increase that comes with being Council President, his office said in a news release.
Olivier was voted unanimously into the position of Council President on Thursday.
"I know that times are tough for some many families in the City of Fresno and I do not feel it would be right for me to take this pay increase during these times. I am happy to serve the people of Fresno. That is what I was voted into office to do," Olivier said.
Olivier says he wants that money to stay in the city's general fund. This is in conjunction with the 5% pay cut he took during the budget talks of 2011, Olivier's office said.
