Merced Airport Back Open After Crash Landing; Pilot Survives

The Merced Regional Airport is back open aftera pilot made a crash landing Saturday afternoon.

Merced FireBattalion Chief Shawn Henry says the single-engine Mooney plane crashed after 5:30p.m., after its landing gear collapsed as it was arriving at the airport.

The pilot, whoHenry described as a "veteran pilot" was the only one on board, and he was ableto walk away.

The runwaywas closed as crews removed the aircraft.

This affecteda Great Lakes Airline flight that had been scheduled to arrive from Visalia.

The plane was keptin Visalia untilthe runway was cleared.
