Man Accused of Killing Visalia CHP Officer Shows His Face in Court

The man accused in the Las Vegas deaths of an off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer, and his brother-in-law, was in a Las Vegas courtroom Monday morning.

Our sister station KVVU reports that James Montgomery appeared in court for his arraignment.

The 29-year-old faces charges including murder, kidnapping, robbery and auto theft.

On August 18th, Officer Jesus "Jesse" Magdaleno and Felix Brandon Cruz were packing up a truck in the Valet area of the Flamingo Hotel after celebrating Magdaleno's bachelor party.

According to police reports, there is surveillance video that shows Montgomery driving the truck away from the hotel.

Cruz was in the bed of the truck, and Magdaleno ran behind it. He eventually made his way into the bed of the truck.

A mile away, the truck crashed and both men thrown out.

Magdaleno died at the scene.

Cruz died the following day.

Montgomery is being held at Clark County Detention Center.

He is due back in court on December 15th, when a judge is set to determine if there is enough evidence for Montgomery to stand trial.
