Judge Rules CA Death Penalty Unconstitutional Because It Takes Too Long

A federal judge ruled has now ruled California's death penalty unconstitutional.

The judge cited the time it takes from sentencing, to carrying out the death penalty.

That was ruled a violation of the eighth amendment's protection against cruel and unusual punishment.

California put a moratorium on the death penalty in 2006 and hasn't executed anyone since then.

There are 742 people on death row in the state right now.
