Investigators Suspect Cellmate In Death Of Kern Valley State Prison Inmate
DELANO, Calif. (KMPH) —
Investigators are looking into the death of a 41-year-old inmate at Kern Valley State Prison, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said.
The prisoner, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, was found unresponsive by prison staff in his cell at 7:46 p.m. on Thursday.
The inmate's cellmate, 41-year-old Scott Mendez, has been identified as the suspect in the case, authorities said.
Mendez is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole from Fresno County for first-degree murder.
