Inmate Killed In Wasco Prison Riot

An inmate was killed and two others were seriously injured after a riot broke out in Wasco State Prison Monday morning, officials said.

About 40 prisoners were involved in the riot that started at 9:20 a.m. in prison's exercise yard, according to a news release from the California Department of Correctional facilities.

Correctional officers fired one round from a rifle to get the riot under control.

The three inmates were taken to a hospital outside of the prison for treatment. One of the three inmates was pronounced dead at 10 a.m.

No staff were injured in the riot.
