How You Can Help Firefighters"Fill The Boot" For MDA

Fresno firefighters on Wednesday were out on city streets{} trying to "Fill The Boot."

"Fill the Boot" is an annual event aimed at helping Central Valley families struggling with muscular dystrophy.

Last year, Cal Fire-Fresno County helped raise nearly $28,000 for the Central Valley Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This year, they're hoping to top that amount by raising $38,000.

After meeting some of the MDA families, firefighters say they're determined to do everything they can to help make that happen.

"We've met the families, they came out this week a lot of them, to some of the stations to try and encourage the firefighters and motivate us for this week," said CalFire Fresno County fire captain Ryan Michaels. "Just knowing exactly where that money goes, how it's used by the company is an amazing deal and we're very honored to be a part of that."

The money raised goes to help MDA kids go to summer camp, repair wheelchairs or other medically necessary equipment, and to help take care of the families of those suffering with muscular dystrophy.

If you missed them Wednesday, firefighters will also be out trying to "Fill The Boot" this Friday for two more hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
