Police Say Hanford Man Admits To Killing Wife

A Hanford man is behind bars tonight, after police said he called them and admitted to killing his wife.

The Hanford police department received a call at 12:36 p.m. from 52-year-old Todd Pate; he said he needed officers to come out to his house.

Officers were called to the 3000 block of Nutmeg Place, and found the victim, 42-year-old Melanie Pate at the bottom of the family pool.

Investigators pronounced Pate dead on the scene; she had a slash around her neck.

The news was a shock to neighbors who knew the couple well.

"I never, ever imagine them having issues. They were always that happy couple on the block," said neighbor Katie Vierra.

Neighbors said the couple was going through a divorce but in their eyes, it was a peaceful one.

They don't remember ever hearing the couple argue or seeing any sign of trouble.

"They were good people," said neighbor Arman Anzures. {}

According to police, there have never been any previous calls for domestic violence complaints at this residence.

The couple is believed to have two children who were not home during the time of the incident.

Todd Pate was booked into Kings County jail and is being charged with Criminal Homicide.{}
