Getting Closer: Reedley Police Dog Fundraiser Nears Goal

Reedley Police are close to putting another police dog on the streets.{}{}The three week old police dog fundraiser is not far from hitting the 12-thousand dollar goal.

So far close to 500 K-9 hero{}stuffed dogs have been sold at various Reedley outlets.{} They are also on their second order of K-9 shirts.{}

KMPH Fox 26 and Reedley Police created a partnership three weeks ago to raise money to put a new police dog on the street.{} Chief Joe Garza says the department has already been in contact with their vendor and soon{}he will be looking at dogs.{} Garza says the goal is to get Officer Bryce Alcorn and his new dog in a five week training course in{}Northern California by early June.

Six different fundraiser's to benefit the police dog campaign have already been scheduled between late March and early May.{} Chief Garza says that could fund another dog.{} "We've always had a goal of having a third dog.{} I'd love to get back to where we were back when I was handling dogs with five dogs out on the street.{} But one step at a time.

Here is the information on the fundraiser's. The Sean Walsh K-9 Memorial Foundation is offering lunch or dinner meals at Tahoe Joe's on Thursday March 27th.{} Tickets are $20.

On March 28th there will be a K-9 Zumbathon at Xcelerate Gym in Reedley.{} The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and the cost is $6 to participate.

The Reedley Rotary Auction on March 29th will give some of its profits to help buy a police dog.{} Doors open at 5:30.{} Tickets are available at police headquarters.

On April 1st thru the 18th Jack In The Box will be asking patrons in ten different Valley cities to donate a dollar to buy a police dog.{} A five dollar donation will get you a milkshake.

A Poker Tournament at the new 500 Club in Fresno April 19th also benefits the Reedley Police Dog Fund.{} The buy in is $60 and begins at 3:00 p.m.

Finally the Knights Cavalry will hold a motorcycle scavenger hunt run on Saturday May 10th.{} It begins at Blackstone and Barstow.{} Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run at 9:00 a.m. Single{}riders are $25 while couples are $35.{}
