Fresno St. Prepares For Nevada & Valley Native, Jefferson

When Tim Deruyter was hired as head football coach at Fresno State, he talked about a goal of winning a conference championship. Who would have believed the Bulldogs would be playing for a title in{}his first year? But that goal is well within Fresno State's reach as they head to Nevada.

It's November, the Dogs are in first place, and they control their own destiny when it comes to a Mountain West Conference title. A far cry from their bowl'ess (4-9) campaign just a year ago.

If the Bulldogs want a good shot at winning they will have to slow down El Diamante{}grad, and Nevada running back, Stefphon Jefferson, the nation's third leading rusher.

DeRuyter thinks very highly of the Central Valley Product, "He's a guy that runs with great pad level, great vision. He's got great burst. He runs through people, around people, and he has break away speed. Those are the guys that we'd like to keep at Fresno St., but we're not going to get them all."

Now, obviously, first year head coach Tim Deruyter wasn't here when Jefferson was being recruited out of El Diamante, but he's here now, and he's in charge of trying to shut him down, come Saturday. Kickoff in Reno set for 7:30.
