Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy and A Man Accused of Breaking Into A Home Get Into A Fight
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) —
A Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy is recovering after getting into a fight with a man trying to break into a home. Investigators say the bad guy tried to run away and that's when the fight happened.
Investigators say it all started when they received a 911 call from a young woman who was home alone.
The lady says that the man was trying to break into her home using a shovel and he was holding a beer.
The young woman says after she called 911 she saw the deputy walk up her driveway and confront the bad guy. She says the guy tried to run and the two got into a fight, and the deputy eventually pinned the man against a wall. The lady tells KMPH Fox 26 News that the guy got loose and ran down the driveway, she goes on to say that the deputy tackled the man and pinned him to the ground until help arrived.
Police officers and deputies from all over the Fresno area raced over to help. People who live next door say the noise startled them.
"There was a lot of commotion here," says Guadalupe Vasquez, who lives next door, "My wife and I were scared. We didn't know what was going on and thought they could be chasing someone who might be armed."
Vasquez and other neighbors say they don't know who the man is but they aren't taking any chances.
"We lock all our doors, our windows, everything," adds Vasquez, "It's not the same neighborhood this used to be."
Both the bad guy and the deputy were taken to Community Regional Medical Center to be checked out for a few injuries. Deputies say both of them are going to be fine.
