Firefighter Hurt in Downtown Fresno Building Fire

Things are now back to normal in one stretch Downtown Fresno, after a fire inside one of the iconic buildings on the Fulton Mall.

Firefighters were called to the former J.C.Penney building around 3:00 p.m., for reports of smoke from an upper floor.

Crews were told people may have been inside.

They went in, but did not find anyone.

Firefighters had the fire out in less than an hour.

One firefighter was taken out to an ambulance; he may be dehydrated.

Firefighters say they found evidence that other fires have been set inside the building in the past, likely by squatters.

There was also evidence that someone tried to steal wire from the basement.

The owner of the building is in Los Angeles.
