Fear Of Childbirth Linked To Postpartum Depression

Being anxious about childbirth is normal - even being a little fearful. But a new study finds if a woman is really scared about her impending childbirth, she may have a high risk for postpartum depression. Knowing this could help the woman, her doctor and family best treat mom and baby once the baby is born.

An international team of researchers looked at more than a half million mothers. They found the risk for postpartum depression was highest with the birth of the first child.

Postpartum depression is a form of depression that happens in the first few months after childbirth.

It can make new moms have low feelings of self worth and cause baby-bonding issues.

Findings were recently published in the journal "BMJ Open."{}
