Derailed Train: Crews Repairing The Tracks

Railroad crews are working throughout the night and morning making repairs to the tracks near Hanford.

While tractors and other heavy equipment tore apart the tracks in need of repairs, enormous cranes, with several that could hold a capacity weight of some 300 tons attempted to lift the derailed Amtrak passenger cars off the tracks.

At the request of the National Transportation Safety Board, members of the California Highway Patrol reconstructed the accident.

The CHP will head up the investigation.

As of Monday night, Amtrak officials said at least until 7 a.m. Tuesday no trains will travel on that stretch of railway.

Passengers will be bussed from Oakland to Bakersfield and Sacramento to Bakersfield until the tracks are repaired.
