Dad Of Fresno Boy Killed By Drunk Driver Shares His Story
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) —
The father of a Fresno boy killed by a drunk driver is talking about the accident publicly for the first time. Jesse Maldonado says he wants to prevent another tragic death caused by drunk driving. Maldonado's 7-year old son was killed by a drunk driver in 2012 while the family was riding their bikes.
"Something I had never imagined ever in my worst nightmares, I had never imagined that I would not have one of my kids with me," says Jesse Maldonado.
Donovan Maldonado was riding his bike with his family on July 25, 2012. While the family was crossing the street police reports say Loren LeBeau rammed into the family and dragged Donovan more than 1000 feet. LeBeau was a high school basketball coach who left the scene of the accident and then returned. LeBeau made a plea deal with prosecutors and was sentenced to 12-years in prison. However, Maldonado told the students that nothing can bring back his son.
"Just remember that little boys face when you think you might decide to drink and drive and not only endanger yourself, but others around you," adds Maldonado.
