Escaped Inmate Back in Custody

UPDATE: Jeffery Scott Landers is back in custody Sunday afternoon. He was found by Merced County Sheriff's deputies hiding in an orchard not far from where he escaped{}near the town of Livingston.

Landers, a convicted murderer, escaped from a transport van en route to Stockton from Wasco State Prison around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

He will be taken back to Wasco and will face additional charges for the escape attempt.

An extensive search is on in Merced County for a convicted killer.

The California Department of Corrections reports that 34-year-old Jeffery Scott Landers escaped Saturday night, as he was being moved from Wasco State Prison to Stockton, California.

The Merced County Sheriff's Office was called to help with the search around 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

Landers is believed to have escaped from officers near Sultana Drive and Liberty Avenue in the Livingston area.

Landers is 5'8", and has brown hair and hazel eyes.

He has an eagle tattoo on chest.

The Riverside Press Enterprise reports that Landers was convicted of killing a man in 2011.

Officers consider Landers highly dangerous.
