Clovis Woman Accused of Stabbing Her Mother to Death

Clovis - Four young children spent a night inside the same home, where their grandmother was found murdered.

Police say, 40-year-old Angelica Hadley stabbed her own mother, 64-year-old Maria Arellano, to death.

It happened Sunday night in a home on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue in Clovis.

A neighbor told KMPH, she believes Hadley was showing symptoms of mental illness in the days leading up to the killing.

"The daughter stabbed the mother.{} She had just visited here from Los Angeles," said Mary Keene, who is good friends with Hadley's next door neighbor and has met her before.

"She was hallucinating, and hearing voices.{} She was acting weird and saying she's going to kill somebody," said Keene.

Clovis police found four girls, ages 3 to 9 years old inside the house Monday morning, along with the dead body of their grandmother.

Neighbors say they saw Hadley wandering the night of the murder.

She was reported missing to police, but returned home later that night.

At about 9:30 that night, police believe Hadley and her mother got into an argument, which led to the deadly stabbing.

A neighbor says the oldest child noticed her mother acting strange.

"The 9-year-old said my mom put a knife in her pocket, and she said she was going to kill her mommy," said Keene.

After police the discovered body, they found Hadley walking in the neighborhood.

They say she tried to run when she saw them.

Further down the street, a father cringed at the tragic news.

"My heart goes out to them, it really does.{} That's just awful," said Vance Smith, who lives on Fowler Avenue.

He says he's seen the four kids before, while out during a walk or bike ride, but he's never seen anything that would've predicted murder.

Police are not sure what the kids saw, or what kind of scars this tragic experience, may cause emotionally.

"My gosh, that's the real tragedy in the kids," said Smith.

The children have been placed with Fresno County Children and Family Services and several of their relatives from the Los Angeles area are in Clovis.

Police are not confirming the status of Hadley's mental health.

Hadley was booked into jail on one count of murder and four counts of child endangerment.
