Car Thieves Shot Man, Victim Speaks Out
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) —
A 19-year old is resting at home after a group of thieves trying to steal his car shot him.
With a bullet still in his side, 19-year-old Fernando Mendoza spent the day trying to secure his Chevy Malibu after thieves broke the passenger side window, attempting to steal it.
Tuesday night just after 10 o'clock, Fernando heard his car alarm go off.
He looked outside and saw three people with black hoodies rummaging through it.
He ran outside and was shot.
Fernando Mendoza says, "I didn't really think they were going to shoot because I just ran to them, and boom they just started busting right there."
Reporter asks, "4 shots?"
Mendoza says, "Yeah, 4 shots, the fourth one is the one that got me but if it wasn't for me turning around it probably would have got me on my chest."
Fresno police flooded the area near Church and Geneva with officers and searched house to house with dogs.
However, the people they were trying to find got away.
Fernando's girlfriend is expecting their first child and she is just thankful he survived the shooting.
Both Fernando and Fresno police detectives believe someone knows something about the shooting.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crimestoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
