Boise State's Challenge; Keep Feeding The Monster

Seven years ago, Chris Petersen inherited a Boise State program that was among the nation's elite in college football.

So far, Petersen has managed to keep it there. His record as the Broncos' head coach is 77-7.

Taking a program to the top is one thing. Keeping it there is another. Former Fresno State head coach Jim Sweeney described that task by saying you have to keep feeding the monster.

Petersen knows exactly what Coach Sweeney was talking about. He says every team is gunning for his Broncos every week, adding that the competition extends to recruiting.

Fresno State,{}4-2 on the season,{}has lost six straight and ten of the last eleven{}head to head meetings with Boise State. But a win on the blue turf Saturday would keep the Bulldogs in first place in the Mountain West Conference.

The Broncos are favored by seven points.
