UPDATE: Alcohol Suspected In Car Crash That Killed Two Porterville Teens

UPDATE: Police have released the names and ages of three of the four people who were in a crash that killed two Porterville teens Monday night.

Juan Carlos Hernandez, 24, was driving the car when it was stopped by police officers on Plano Street. Police say he fled from the car but was later arrested for suspicion of DUI and resisting arrest.{}

Police say 18-year-old Elias Vargas, Jr. took control of the car and drove away from officer before losing control and rolling the car. He died at the scene of the crash.

Bianka Ashley Romero, 18, was the front-seat passenger in the car. She was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment of a broken collar bone, a broken femur, fractured vertebrae and a broken pelvis. She is being held at the hospital for observation and expected to be released in the upcoming days.

The name of the 15 year old who died in the wreck has not been released.


ORIGINAL: Porterville police say alcohol appears to have been a factor in a crash that killed two teens Monday night.

An 18-year-old man took off from police during a traffic stop on Plano Street. Police say they were in the process of arresting another person who was in the car when the driver fled with a 15-year-old passenger in the car.

The 18-year-old lost control and rolled the car over several times before hitting a tree. The driver and front seat passenger were pinned in. He died at the scene.

The 15-year-old girl was thrown from the car.
