Alcohol Likely A Factor In Fatal Friant Road Crash, Officers Say

The California Highway Patrol says alcohol was a likely a contributing factor in a head-on car crash Sunday evening that killed a 54-year-old Fresno woman.

According to reports from the CHP, 49-year-old Luis Moreno, of Kerman, was driving a pick-up truck northbound on Friant Road near Lost Lake Road at around 50 miles per hour. Officers say Moreno allowed his truck to cross into the southbound lane.

Moreno's truck struck an oncoming car carrying two people.

The 54-year-old female passenger, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin, died at the scene. The driver of the car suffered major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The crash is currently under investigation.
