Chopper Crashes In Seattle: Two Killed

UPDATE: The two men killed in Tuesday morning's helicopter crash in Seattle have been identified as KOMO News photographer Bill Strothman and pilot Gary Pfitzner.


A KOMO News helicopter crashed near the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, killing the pilot and cameraman.

The helicopter was taking off from the rooftop of the building across the street from the Space Needle when it lost control and crashed onto the street below.

The chopper exploded and burned cars parked on the street.At least one person on the ground was injured by the fire.

KOMO is a sister station of KMPH and we mourn the loss of our coworkers.

The names of the two men are being withheld until later today.

The NTSB is at the crash site and will hold a new conference at 1:00 p.m.
